Scrap booking is a hobby or craft that is related to pasting newspaper clips, magazine articles, and personal photographs or other into customized decorated albums or scrap books. So if you too share in the same interest you should choose the right paper, templates and ideas to make your own scrap book.

1. You need to choose the right paper for your project as there are a variety of scrap book papers available. Card stock is a heavy weight paper mainly used for your page layout especially for photo mats and paper piercing. Background and Texture paper is used to decorate the background of your scrap book pages. Gingham paper is a patterned paper used for background accents on your scrap book pages. Mulberry paper adds a bit of “flair” to your pages whereas Vellum looks very elegant and could be used for masking an image or embossing. When you choose a scrap book paper for your memory books always choose one that is acid free so that the photographs you need to preserve are not ruined.

2. There are different scrap booking templates that you can use for your scrap book pages like the lettering templates, envelope templates, die cut templates that shall assist you in making the perfect design for your scrap book layouts.

3. A scrap booking technique known as “Inking” offers a lot of variety whereby there is no specific way to ink your pages and you can use as much ink as you like in your project. For this you need to have 1) scrap booking paper, 2) clean and dry sponge, 3) ink pads of your choice and other supplies such as stamps, stickers, templates.

First you should cut your desired mattes and papers, then dab the paper in the ink pad and turn it into various directions. It will create a smudged color on your paper and then use a sponge to fill in the color in uneven areas you like. It adds a depth to your pages and gives an antique and weathered look by enhancing your paper and adding to overall layout.

Tip! Buy your embellishments on December 26! As always, the day after Christmas, lights and gumdrops and shiny tinsel are always at rediculously low prices. Make sure to buy the things you could use as scrapbooking page embellishemts.

4. You can even use craft punch templates that comes in different shapes and are usually only an inch or two in dimension. Punch your shape on the scarp book paper and place it on a copier with a dark sheet of paper covering the punched potion and lastly enlarge it to your desired size and cut out the black punch pieces for templates. How to Save Money on Scrapbooking Supplies

Tip! Team education. One of the perks of joining a team of scrapbooking instructors is the education you’ll get in scrapbooking.

Scrapbooking is so much fun, that it’s very easy to rack up quite a bill when shopping. I know when my daughter and I visited the craft store last week, she was just mesmerized in the scrapbook aisle. She truly wanted one of everything. Today, there is so much you can add to a page, stickers, embellishments, ribbons and stamps.

Scrapbooking Secrets - Beginner’s Guide. A step by step guide to getting started scrapbooking quickly and easily.

So, how can you get all of the goodies without breaking the bank? I have two suggestions. The first is scrapbook kits. We belong to a monthly scrapbook club. So, every month we receive an assortment of papers, an assortment of stickers and an assortment of embellishments all in one kit. We mix and match our kits all of the time. If we never bought anything but the kits, we’d have enough materials to make many great pages. The manufacturers of scrapbook kits almost always offer a lower price on the kit versus what you would pay if you purchased each item individually. You’ll find kits available for themes, such as weddings, birthdays and summer vacations, and you’ll also find kits available for seasons, summer, winter, autumn and fall. Having two daughters, I’ve also purchased several “girl” kits. While I don’t have boys, I’ve seen baby boy kits, sports kits and car kits.

Tip! Save your wrapping paper! We once joked about a frugal couple who saved their wrapping paper from year to year. For scrapbooking however, this can be a truly memorable piece.

My second suggestion is clearance sales. If you are a scrapbooker, you know that you’ll be scrapbooking in a years’ time. I buy scrapbook supplies, the same way I buy clothes, after the season. Once summer is over, all of the scrapbook companies make room for their fall inventory by lowering the prices on all remaining summer products. This is the best time to buy those summer colors. The same is true in reverse. If you want the darker autumn tones of paper, wait until summer is here and then stock up. We buy a lot of discontinued products. They work great, but we get them for a fraction of the cost.
